25-26 October 2008

This year's Dance Around the World festival will take place on the 25-26 October 2008, the last weekend in October.  The "final"  programme is now available. Click on the attachments below to view the programmes for Saturday, Sunday, or the Saturday evening Latin spectacular.  There are also fliers about the music workshops and the Sunday evening conference on collecting. Please note that even the "final" programme may be subject to change.

Teaching Caribbean dance Once again performers and teachers will bring you an astonishingly wide selection of traditional dance styles. You can spend all your time watching or you can try out the dance styles for yourself in the ‘taster' workshops. You don't need any previous experience and you don't need to bring a partner. We are delighted to welcome eleven performance groups who are new to the festival this year and, in addition, to welcome back many long-standing friends of the event. Performances and workshops will run non-stop from 10.00am to 6.30pm on both days. On Sunday the programme will include four music workshops where the participants will learn a variety of dance tunes and rhythms.

Montage of dancersOn Saturday evening, the Latin-American event will create a Carnival party atmosphere in the big hall upstairs while, downstairs, you can join in the Balkan dance party with live music by the Dunav Balkan Band. On Sunday evening, come and join in our lively barn dance in the upstairs hall with a mix of English and International dances played by the brilliantly versatile Cloudburst International Dance Band. Downstairs on Sunday evening we offer you a new conference event. A fascinating group of speakers including Janet Russell, Chris Holderness and Doc Rowe will talk about their experiences of collecting folk music and dance. Expect singing, dancing and lively debate!
